Description

GAC & Polypropylene Combo Water Filter – Multi‑Stage Protection

The GAC & polypropylene combo water filter combines granular activated carbon (GAC) with polypropylene sediment media in a single cartridge. Together, these two media stages protect your water system and improve water quality. First, the polypropylene media captures sand, rust, silt, and other particles. Then, the GAC media absorbs chlorine and organic molecules that cause bad taste and odors.

Using both materials in one filter gives you broader protection than a simple carbon or sediment filter alone. Because this combo filter combines physical and chemical filtration, it works well in systems that need both dust and taste control. Furthermore, it fits standard 10″ housings, so you can install it easily in most household and light commercial water setups.

How the Combo Filter Works

Water flows first through the outer polypropylene layer. This section catches larger solids, which protects later media and downstream filters. After that, water passes through the granular activated carbon portion, where chemical contaminants bind to the carbon surface. Because GAC has a very large internal surface area, it traps molecules like chlorine and many taste‑ or odor‑causing compounds.

Technical Specifications

  • Filter Media: Coconut shell, fruit shell, or coal activated carbon + polypropylene sediment media
  • Size: 10″ standard housing compatible
  • Micron Rating: Nominal 1 µm or 5 µm
  • Max Operating Pressure: 80 psi (~5.5 bar)
  • Max Flow Rate: ~2.5 GPM (~9.5 L/min)
  • Max Operating Temp: 52 °C (~125 °F)
  • Filtration Life: ~3–6 months or ~2500 gallons (varies with water quality)

Because the activated carbon portion uses high‑carbon media, it works well on chlorine and taste issues, while the polypropylene section focuses on particles that could damage more sensitive filters later.

Key Benefits

  • Dual‑Action Filtration: The combination of sediment removal and carbon adsorption gives you broader water improvement than a single media filter.
  • Improves Taste & Odor: GAC adsorbs chlorine and many organic compounds that affect smell and flavor.
  • Protects Downstream Filters: Sediment media catches particles before they reach carbon stages, RO membranes, or other delicate components.
  • Easy to Replace: Fits standard 10″ housings, making replacement easy and low‑cost.
  • Enhanced Overall Water Quality: Works well in drinking water systems, pre‑RO stages, and light commercial setups.

Where to Use This Combo Filter

This filter works best for:

  • Drinking water purifiers
  • Reverse osmosis pre‑filters
  • Under‑sink and countertop systems
  • Light commercial water treatment
  • Whole‑house pre‑filtration (with appropriate housing)

Installation & Maintenance

Install the GAC & polypropylene combo water filter into a 10″ filter housing according to your system instructions, and then flush the filter with cold water before first use. Replace it when water flow decreases or water quality noticeably changes. Regular changes help keep your entire filtration system performing at its best.
